</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is a highlight of my Christmas decorating. I have 4 trees this year. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Family Tree in the Living Room</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_tSSI2kDzfk/TvUjwQPaxRI/AAAAAAAAAPM/uUvvS22_jjA/s1600/DSC00007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_tSSI2kDzfk/TvUjwQPaxRI/AAAAAAAAAPM/uUvvS22_jjA/s320/DSC00007.JPG" width="179" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The Christmas Tree in the extra bedroom that you can see when you're coming up the driveway. I did this in red and silver and all glitter ornaments! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1kPIAXuIkeI/TvUj38aqNUI/AAAAAAAAAQA/c8nYgxsyFTA/s1600/DSC00023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1kPIAXuIkeI/TvUj38aqNUI/AAAAAAAAAQA/c8nYgxsyFTA/s320/DSC00023.JPG" width="179" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is the tree in my son, Heath's, room. He has a UK Wildcat room. So naturally, his tree is decorated in blue. The topper was actually his idea. He has good style!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QSgIuWLMxJM/TvUj2OhChYI/AAAAAAAAAP0/2w0rjlxhX4M/s1600/DSC00019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QSgIuWLMxJM/TvUj2OhChYI/AAAAAAAAAP0/2w0rjlxhX4M/s320/DSC00019.JPG" width="179" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here is the tree in my daughter, Payton's, room. Does your white tree look yellow after a couple of years? I might have to get a new one if I can find one on sale. It matches her room too.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Oh well, It is her tree, I guess she can have the colors not distributed evenly if she wants:) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is my mantel. I LOVE that I put my nativity in the fireplace. It makes it the center of attention. And after all, Jesus is the reason for the season!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QgB-ve0C-0Y/TvUjxh-FfaI/AAAAAAAAAPU/0tGz6t7qWVw/s1600/DSC00009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QgB-ve0C-0Y/TvUjxh-FfaI/AAAAAAAAAPU/0tGz6t7qWVw/s320/DSC00009.JPG" width="179" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">God has certainly blessed my family this year with our new house and so many other things. I am thankful for our health and prosperity. My sister in law asked me to make her a Hello Kitty cake. She just wanted it to be the head. So I thought it can't be too hard right? Well, it was probably the easiest cake I have ever made. Here is the end result and then I'll tell you how I cut it out.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--NQEdceVAnU/Tslz8Kz_hzI/AAAAAAAAAOo/_KUHfedY0kU/s1600/Hello+Kitty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--NQEdceVAnU/Tslz8Kz_hzI/AAAAAAAAAOo/_KUHfedY0kU/s320/Hello+Kitty.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> <span style="font-family: Verdana;">I baked 2 9X13 cakes. Completely let the cake cool and then place in the fridge before cutting. Cut out the oval for the face and cut 2 of the corners off of what was left for the ears. It was as easy as that. Attach the ears with icing. Looking at the picture, I recognize the fact that I should have smoothed the icing a little better:) I just used leftover halloween candy for the eyes and nose and licorice twizzlers for the whiskers. She loved it!</span><br />

My life seems to be slipping away from me. Did you know that I turned 30 this year and my baby turned 3?? I have so many blessings in my life but I'm a little lost about what comes next. I know God will show me the next plan for my life when he's ready, but I'm not a patient person:) Anyway, I found this charger at Walmart the other night. I know it was less than $4 but can't exactly remember the price. I don't have a single Thanksgiving decoration, so I thought I would make this one. I used my Silhouette to cut out the words Give Thanks. I debated about the color to use, but am happy with my final choice. So here is the end result for less than $5 total. </span></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P99bP3W7hmw/TsgBKyLBgvI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/KBpnD-51wZc/s1600/IMG_3120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P99bP3W7hmw/TsgBKyLBgvI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/KBpnD-51wZc/s320/IMG_3120.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So go to Walmart and get your Silhouette out ladies & Happy Crafting!!</span></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I had a cricut, hated it, it tore up within 1 month of having it and could NOT get the company to correspond with me. I've had my </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Silouhette for almost a year now. I didn't use it much while we were in our "transition" house. But now that I'm here, I have room and use it all the time!! I thought I would give you another glance at our new house by showing you one way I have used my silouhette.</span><br />

I've held up pretty good today, spending the majority of the day with my grandparents (who I love dearly) and my brother. I still think of him every day and just about the time I think all my tears are dry, here they come again. My dad wasn't a perfect dad. But he was mine and I loved him. A lot of people saw a lot of faults but I saw a man that struggled and all the while wanted better for his children. Loved them enough to stay away at times. Loved them enough to say he was wrong. It took me until I was an adult to realize this, but better late than never. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On that morning, my Grandma called to tell me he had passed. I sat on the kitchen floor praying to God that my Daddy was in Heaven. I knew he believed in Jesus. But I've never lost anyone I was close to, so it wasn't something I thought about too much. Of course he was in Heaven, right? But he was a sinner, an alcoholic, not perfect. I've never had a bigger sense of peace than I did at that very moment. God wrapped his arms around me and told me everything was alright. That my Daddy had made it home.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">When we went back to his apartment to get his belongings, I found a list of bible verses on his fridge. I don't know where they came from, but I know they were dear to him because they were stained and faded. The title was "You say, God says." You can read them all <a href="http://thelordsprayer.net/yousay.html">HERE</a>. It's here that I found the verse that is now on his monument. 2 Corinthians 12:9 "My Grace is Sufficient for You." God never asked my Daddy to be perfect, just that he believe in Jesus and turned over his problems to him. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I always felt like everyone thought of my Daddy as a sinner. I hated that they judged him because I knew who he was underneath his addiction. But the days surrounding his funeral I heard "your Daddy was a special person", "he always had a smile", "he always made me laugh", "he never met a stranger". That was my Daddy and I was so proud that they caught a glimpse of the real him.</span> <span style="font-family: Verdana;">Anyone who has a family member with an addiction can relate when I say, their addiction is your problem. But I will also tell you that I respect that man probably more than anyone I have ever known. He struggled, and although sometimes misguided, he got up every day and pressed on. Each day determined that he would do better than he had the day before. Some days he did, some days he didn't. He faced people that had given up on him. He faced people that looked down on him. But he kept going. He loved with everything he had. I never had a Daddy that could buy me a new car or take me on fancy vacations. But I had a Daddy that loved me more than life itself. Not everyone can say that! And I miss him dearly.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-07gCLktMXIA/Tpu9H-sAu2I/AAAAAAAAAMI/AUEC4oKY3dY/s1600/Daddy+1+year.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-07gCLktMXIA/Tpu9H-sAu2I/AAAAAAAAAMI/AUEC4oKY3dY/s320/Daddy+1+year.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I take care of people. It's what I've done since I was a little girl and its what I do for a living. I love to make flowers for the cemetary. It makes me feel like I'm still taking care of my Daddy. Some people think that it's morbid to take pictures of monuments, but it is comforting to me for some reason. Everyone deals with a loss the best way they know how I guess.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">XOXO</span>Jessica S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17401831619505503907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072743719241703077.post-52076235598606143492011-10-15T21:12:00.000-07:002011-11-05T20:18:46.113-07:00Payton's Goodwill Chandelier<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Waaaayyyy back in May I started revamping a chandelier that I got at Goodwill. I knew I wanted a cutesy, princess-like light fixture for Payto's new room and hoped I could turn this, into just that! I wish I had taken pictures of the "before" BUT I forgot. So you can picture it. It was BRASS. You know the ones. They fill Goodwill shelves everywhere and if you've been alive for more than 15 years, one of these used to hang in your house or atleast your grandparent's house!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I first took everything apart. A good note would be to draw a diagram about what came from where! My husband had a funny little joke about me trying to be Martha Stewart while the electrician was putting it back together. Good thing the electrician is my uncle! After that, I taped off everything that didn't need to be painted, like the inside of the light socket.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I put on 2 coats of spray paint and that's all it took!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">And here is the finished product...................</span><br />

What have I been doing?? <br />
<br />
<div align="center">THIS:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3J4BXUpw7LU/Tpj1aCrkZYI/AAAAAAAAALQ/8d-LTMPohRQ/s1600/IMG_2839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" oda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3J4BXUpw7LU/Tpj1aCrkZYI/AAAAAAAAALQ/8d-LTMPohRQ/s320/IMG_2839.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">It's finally finished! We've been in about a month and since I took a week off work, I unpacked the last box this week (besides the 10X20 storage buillding). I will post more pics and have all kinds of projects to post soon:) It's not over though. The painter has put a mechanic's lien on our house. He got fired and wants his money anyway. The NERVE of some people. It is a disaster and I still don't know how its all going to go over, but time will tell. Talk to you soon!</div>Jessica S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17401831619505503907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072743719241703077.post-18944510038349386382011-06-04T05:41:00.000-07:002011-06-04T05:41:26.952-07:00The Garden Is Up<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRoQsIwY-KsuAgiGxvChLo57vhkCPYmXtpCSOXFh1elLC3SEV4s6nsV6zNMXyknTA-6Y8YJ2cvNSMl8oRQo0f11HA4AZc4ku55VxOOUwAPqFsiRHlts_CmUivSoEDuS_jnQGIlLyJL9D8/s1600/IMG_2616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRoQsIwY-KsuAgiGxvChLo57vhkCPYmXtpCSOXFh1elLC3SEV4s6nsV6zNMXyknTA-6Y8YJ2cvNSMl8oRQo0f11HA4AZc4ku55VxOOUwAPqFsiRHlts_CmUivSoEDuS_jnQGIlLyJL9D8/s320/IMG_2616.JPG" t8="true" width="320" /></a></div><br />

So I have been making them myself. My first arrangement was for Easter and it lasted 2 months and looked just as good when I took it down as when I put it up!! You can see when I put them up <a href="http://revivedformations.blogspot.com/2011/04/monument-flowers.html">here</a>. Those flowers I had purchased at Hobby Lobby during a 50% off sale. <br />
<br />
A few weeks ago I was driving past a little place that sells monuments and I saw some flower arrangements. I didn't stop because they were big and designed for a double stone, but I kept them in the back of my mind. They were beautiful with big bright bold colors. Well...I was at the Dollar Tree a few days later and saw some that matched the ones I had seen. And here is what I came up with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWON-2OlBS8JqcODDByQjMlF-5ZQxtC-PpTZf1oH88N-PG24TOJQFxyJcDHgEes0gVUkGZeWo3yIIo8SBRpBdvxbJ-lSx_f6OlR7SKBmhVe9pEhYHkSO0wjLMGzn6N9k4Cl54ZC7OeOA8/s1600/daddy%2527s+flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWON-2OlBS8JqcODDByQjMlF-5ZQxtC-PpTZf1oH88N-PG24TOJQFxyJcDHgEes0gVUkGZeWo3yIIo8SBRpBdvxbJ-lSx_f6OlR7SKBmhVe9pEhYHkSO0wjLMGzn6N9k4Cl54ZC7OeOA8/s320/daddy%2527s+flowers.jpg" t8="true" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">(I took this picture with my phone, so its not the best. Sorry!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">They were out of rectangle styrofoam at the Dollar Tree, so I bought a round one. I guess you're supposed to use them to make wreaths with. I just started poking them in. The greenery is simply one bunch on each side poked into the styrofoam. I attached plastic knives to the bottom of the arrangement with wire. This is what sticks to the "green sticky goo" and keeps the flowers from blowing away. That stuff is AWESOME. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or where I can get more?? I love how the flowers form to the stone. I don't think I'll use another saddle. It looks better without one. I did dull the color of the flowers when I sprayed it with clear spray paint. I did that to keep them from fading and getting mildew, but instead of using glossy paint I accidentally used matte finish. Oh well, I still think they look pretty. I've already got my flowers for a fourth of July arrangement. So if you're interested, stay tuned. I never thought I would be one to decorate at the cemetery, but it is actually very therapeutic for me.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

What they have come to love over the past few warm weeks is sidewalk chalk & paint. We emptied our last two bottles of sidewalk paint last night and I remembered seeing a post a few days ago on how to make your own sidewalk paint. I saw the idea at <a href="http://cometogetherkids.blogspot.com/2010/08/homemade-sidewalk-paint.html">Come Together Kids</a>. I had a different idea about what to use though. The kids already had bowls that came with a different kit. So I thought what if you put it in squirt bottles and then you could store the extra easily. So I got ketchup and mustard bottles at Walmart for $1.50.<br />
Here is some pics of Heath & Payton mixing it up!<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
After we got outside and started playing with the paint, I decided it was too thin. So I added some more cornstarch and extra food coloring. The original recipe was drying all white. She has been out there playing for 3 hours!! And you can see Heath's race track in the background. Somehow everything relates to cars:)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">So, my advice is </div><div style="text-align: left;">1 cup water to 1 1/2 cup cornstarch. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Add food coloring until its a few shades darker than you want it to dry. </div><div style="text-align: left;">And have fun!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I did find some stuff, but all in all was very disappointed. I KNOW, I KNOW, everyone in blog land thinks I'm crazy. But I thought most of their stuff looked cheap. My friend Tammy said it was the place to go if you had a kid going to college or getting their first apartment. I don't have to worry about that anytime soon, but I could see where she was coming from. I ended up coming home with some flower pots, kitchen utensils, glasses, scissors and two outdoor rugs. I was pleased with my purchases, but very glad I didn't make the 2 hour drive to Cincinnatti just to go to IKEA. I was actually at a conference in Covington. So after we flopped at IKEA we went to the outlet malls and hit jackpot. Or the outlet malls did because they got all of our money...either way you want to look at it.</span><br />
<br />
My plan with the door mats was to personalize them. They both only cost $2.99. I hate paying close to or over $20 for something to wipe your feet on. I made a stencil on my Silhouette machine. The first time I had it a little off center. So I ended up spray painting the whole thing with bronze spray paint. Then I used black to make my letter. But a COOL thing happened. When I sprayed with the black, the inside turned gold. I have no idea why, but some of you may know. Anyway, the effect is cool. And here is a pic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yUZroXGBMXo/TeGmczGVEzI/AAAAAAAAAGk/TmO2-DyGR0o/s1600/IMG_2637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yUZroXGBMXo/TeGmczGVEzI/AAAAAAAAAGk/TmO2-DyGR0o/s200/IMG_2637.JPG" t8="true" width="200" /></a><img border="0" height="133" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0f13Uy7zEOI/TeGmUZjbg3I/AAAAAAAAAGg/F23WHswd5qw/s200/IMG_2633.JPG" t8="true" width="200" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"> You can see the brands of spray paint I used. I don't know if it would make the same effect if you used different paints or not. The good thing about this rug was that I could follow the pattern and make a straight line. That is how I made the border. This has got to be one of the easiest upgrades I have ever made! I love it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The second rug was a little easier to line the letter up. But I did learn one lesson. If you use the textured spray paint, you need to cover up the rest of your mat, because it is very hard to control. Regular spray paint you can control much better. So here is the finished product.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NmFdj0uChwc/TeGmjm7hQjI/AAAAAAAAAGo/ZYsSvVG89Dk/s1600/IMG_2634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NmFdj0uChwc/TeGmjm7hQjI/AAAAAAAAAGo/ZYsSvVG89Dk/s320/IMG_2634.JPG" t8="true" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">You can see the overspray. I think I will just spray the S with clear spray paint and wait for the other paint to wear off. I think that will work. But for $2.99 I think they both turned out well. And we should only have about 6 weeks until we're in our new house so that I can display them!!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

But I couldn't find any cute lampshades to go with it. The only ones that were cute enough cost about $10 a piece & I needed 5 of them. So I found some green ones at Wal-mart for $2.50.</span><br />

This worked like a charm because it is initially repositionable so that you can smooth out any wrinkles. Let me also say at this point that I originally tried to use scrapbook paper to cover the shade. It was not nearly as giving as the material was and much harder to smooth out the edges. I think it turned out very cute. So instead of spending $10 a piece, I barely spent $15 for all five lampshades! I don't have time today but I will scan in my pattern so that everyone can use it. It is not as easy as you would think to trace a lampshade. Did I mention that I can't wait to get into my new house! We're supposed to be in by the end of June. And I have SOO many projects to complete before then;)</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

And since I'm getting ready to make several creations to go along with my new guest bathroom (see what's going on <a href="http://revivedformations.blogspot.com/2011/04/guest-bathroom.html">here</a>) I thought I would try to make my own hand-carved soap. Let me just tell you that although it didn't take but about 5 minutes, I don't know if I'll be making any more carved soap. I hate to clean & this is MESSY:)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step One:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEcl11K180lMWZObjenQAI5bn9Y6SAzciVSm5x8BkxLM62_ha5RXMEYQUHQ6tzvo-UGf41vk7PmilqtBfXAgC-4oSS4gNxeFASrI_OnsZ8I41l_K8iorD_vI6RxL0xvtHa2BaXhNd8Src/s1600/IMG_2546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEcl11K180lMWZObjenQAI5bn9Y6SAzciVSm5x8BkxLM62_ha5RXMEYQUHQ6tzvo-UGf41vk7PmilqtBfXAgC-4oSS4gNxeFASrI_OnsZ8I41l_K8iorD_vI6RxL0xvtHa2BaXhNd8Src/s320/IMG_2546.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used my <a href="http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/">Silouhette</a> machine to cut out the monogram stencil seen on the left. I had gotten some Zest soap on sale at Kroger about 2 months ago for 99 cents. And when I opened it up, its the same color as my bathroom!!</span><br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Step Two:</span></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJncwTz4lC3NlMJqWOZkgz2mExjn2rxp_jwhbALdH4YOBYhFALCFbDgLXwDK-d0LSMv2Z0QZCyadlIHkOA6fWtEcSJ0AnUrOzVx3ZAzy6ZJ6AF_iPCc75-oCuaBNmCfcQGf2rl543IED4/s1600/IMG_2547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJncwTz4lC3NlMJqWOZkgz2mExjn2rxp_jwhbALdH4YOBYhFALCFbDgLXwDK-d0LSMv2Z0QZCyadlIHkOA6fWtEcSJ0AnUrOzVx3ZAzy6ZJ6AF_iPCc75-oCuaBNmCfcQGf2rl543IED4/s200/IMG_2547.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcV0C9ZnncMaSbj2EJn-2HVqejhAYZ8CzsAScNTexgWWdiBHKJlBTkmYqXFZ3rPR1B7D3qg3e4mgkzu13b_NCrTp-ZHxbgMiynVjdqLc-lViMT2D6vsVdxt07a7-FczZ3tZ4-DEvjKEck/s1600/IMG_2552.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcV0C9ZnncMaSbj2EJn-2HVqejhAYZ8CzsAScNTexgWWdiBHKJlBTkmYqXFZ3rPR1B7D3qg3e4mgkzu13b_NCrTp-ZHxbgMiynVjdqLc-lViMT2D6vsVdxt07a7-FczZ3tZ4-DEvjKEck/s200/IMG_2552.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then used a safety pin to trace around the monogram. This particular soap is soft and it was very easy to trace and carve. Why did I pick the guest bathroom first you ask?? Because I found a shower curtain that I liked. That's it. The only reason I started there.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="269" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhV-E4mi_QWho5HPjf1Zi014Y0gjmnNrcLCFSNjIhfKOuXSmQ8_UJyX-xaXIvKIP6Tax2JDD_OuVl4v_kk2MPQxQ3wVtX4r3IEQYVpJVQUnT0UjedA3RXmp9zV5UZcdwssgpJCeHUkuII/s320/OB-Guest+Bathroom.jpg" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The background is the color of the walls. You can see the tile behind the vanity which will be </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">laid at a diagonal on the floor. The vanity is from Lowes. I like that it has the appearance of a piece of furniture, but still has a toe kick. I worried about cleaning under the vanities that actually had feet. I think that would be a pain, especially since I HATE to sweep:) The shower curtain I bought at Walmart for about $18. I love it! I'm going to carry that color blue into the guest bedroom. But we'll get there another day.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

And it may seem a little odd or creepy to take pictures of some one's monument for a blog, BUT I did it anyway. My dad passed away last October very suddenly and unexpectedly. He is the first person that I have ever lost and I've learned a lot through this process. Because it was winter time and already snowing by the time we decided on the right monument, they couldn't place the stone until the ground was ready. It has been up for about a month now and I have just now made the first "saddle" to go on top. For the month of March I just had blue and white flowers in a ground vase (which you can get at the Dollar Tree) for March Madness & the only college basketball team that really matters: THE UK WILDCATS!! <br />
<br />
Easter is coming up. I wanted something nice in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice for us. That sacrifice has become oh so real to me since the death of my dad. I think prior to that I did take it somewhat for granted. My problem with store bought flowers is that they always look cheap to me. And to have a florist design one, gets to be VERY expensive. So I tried it out myself. My brother and I went to Hobby Lobby and picked out the flowers, which happened to be 50% off that day. All together we had about $25 into this project. That includes flowers, ribbon, wire, and saddle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDXNgeGNay-NAMsh966zsLfoEvoA6Ob_7rzN2dVqtt5u0lu5cnedPfbOEo-xvpezJO3L-tt1aCMRL5ZpSM3LzfI5rSP91dx0H9u76AL8NlAjJIUAFCE7BZ-AzqAMuwgEsaQLBAK9f1Zp4/s1600/Easter+2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDXNgeGNay-NAMsh966zsLfoEvoA6Ob_7rzN2dVqtt5u0lu5cnedPfbOEo-xvpezJO3L-tt1aCMRL5ZpSM3LzfI5rSP91dx0H9u76AL8NlAjJIUAFCE7BZ-AzqAMuwgEsaQLBAK9f1Zp4/s320/Easter+2011.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The cross in the middle came from the Walmart Craft Section. It cost $2.37. You know the little wooden crafts that they always have. All I did was spray paint it white. I also always go over the flowers with clear spray paint to put a protective coating over them, so they don't get mold or mildew on them. I hear that there is professional spray, but 1)I don't know what it is called 2)Spray paint is only 97 cents & 3)This has always worked for me before! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 TIP: I tried to use an epoxy to adhere the cross to my styrofoam form. And I know all you pros are out there laughing at me! WELL.... it ate the styrofoam. So then I just attached the cross to a pick and inserted that way. It is pretty steady and the winds are furious today. So I guess we'll find out soon enough if the cross is going to stay in!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEzUerISDl05WW6xwPqZrib5MhvkZPZY-DxMca2Li2dV7eNMeCfYYHlAYFMBAVuFTv-RyyVob6djvdSrkq6AZKvRMj7n-CSBaRhV6cOPUA5_aktzQDMbkxzwqXlcEs7_ZG-qrjrzCaaF4/s1600/easter+2011-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEzUerISDl05WW6xwPqZrib5MhvkZPZY-DxMca2Li2dV7eNMeCfYYHlAYFMBAVuFTv-RyyVob6djvdSrkq6AZKvRMj7n-CSBaRhV6cOPUA5_aktzQDMbkxzwqXlcEs7_ZG-qrjrzCaaF4/s320/easter+2011-2.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>Luckily, my grandmother has a friend, who has a friend that owns a flower shop. She gave us some "GREEN STICKY GOO" to adhere the saddle to the stone. If anyone knows what this stuff is called, please let me know because I would love to buy some. It sticks wonderfully and doesn't leave any marks. Its almost like that "putty" stuff you use to hang posters on the wall, but way stickier. <br />
<br />
I also think that next time, I will just attach two "sticks" to the bottom of my styrofoam form and use the "GREEN STICKY GOO" to attach the sticks to the headstone. I don't like how the saddle comes down over his name & it's not exactly flat to the top of the stone.<br />
<br />
So please let me know how you think I did and if anyone else out there in blogland has made these, give me some tips! I do plan to change it for at least each season, as I have done so far.<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting (and sorry for the depressing topic)!Jessica S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17401831619505503907noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072743719241703077.post-14156650742556365532011-03-29T05:33:00.000-07:002011-04-08T04:22:08.174-07:00Payton's 3rd Birthday Party<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, we did it. Another successful birthday party. My baby girl turned 3 and I managed not to shed a tear. This birthday has been very difficult for me. She's not a baby anymore and that means I don't have any babies anymore. Never mind the fact that I just returned from a trip to St. Louis with three of my best friends since middle school to celebrate our 30th birthday this year. All the sudden I feel like my life is slipping away.........OK enough about that. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I decided that I have been working on this party for about 2 months and people may like for me to compile a few ideas about having a Minnie Mouse party and where those ideas come from. And in the meantime I get to show off my beautiful birthday girl!</span><br />

I do have a ball cake pan which would have worked the same IF it weren't in storage along with the rest of my life until my house is finished! So instead I used a pyrex bowl. Instructions are all over the internet. The key is to decrease temperature by 50 degrees because the outside will get dry while the inside is still cooking. The bottom part along with the ears and bows are made out of fondant. I obviously iced the head, poorly I might add. But guess what?? The kids thought it was great! Oh, and what about those little Minnie & Mickey figurines? Payton got those as a Christmas present and we got to paint them together. Too cute:)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I don't really know what I've been up to, but I've been busy:) Well the big party is this weekend!! My baby girl is turning 3. I'm very excited and very sad:( My babies are growing up and WAY too quick. </span><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">So the last project is a Minnie Mouse Pinata. I got the idea from <a href="http://atsecondstreet.blogspot.com/2010/04/minnie-party-how-tos-part-1.html">here</a> . </span></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Step One: I used a pyrex bowl to make minnie's head and a smaller bowl for the ears, just slightly overlapping the ears.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX9NLidS_hMGRagNhHn2w8LJHceNRcWMnbjpQM4y1NhwsiECtYq08S0AVJc9pBlNPrEiARncgZTKx4E-Y98apBsbdjsc-_Zv2Gi4xlq8buuWixSTN1-Iv_IuW0I2akOBL4dlmy7do0QyM/s1600/IMG_2308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX9NLidS_hMGRagNhHn2w8LJHceNRcWMnbjpQM4y1NhwsiECtYq08S0AVJc9pBlNPrEiARncgZTKx4E-Y98apBsbdjsc-_Zv2Gi4xlq8buuWixSTN1-Iv_IuW0I2akOBL4dlmy7do0QyM/s320/IMG_2308.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I had planned on being done preparing for my daughters party way ahead of time. But I loved my invitations so much that I thought everyone else would too. And they did. So I had about 200 of those to make and mail out. Then I thought, well these minnie mouse headbands are easy to make I bet people will like them too. And they did. So I had about 100 of those to make and mail out. Might I add, that when 10 seem like a really easy project, 100 is not necessarily that easy. And I have made nothing but the invites for Payton's party. WHY do I do that to myself??!?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyway, this week I wanted to get started on a new craft to link up with. So I got this inspiration from <a href="http://www.heavenlybloomsblog.com/2010/01/kates-minnie-mouse-birthday-party.html">Heavenly Blooms</a>. It is a minnie mouse centerpiece:)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Supplies:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2 small-medium styrofoam balls $1.00 Dollar Tree</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1 medium-large styrofoam balls $3.25 Walmart</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Black Paint</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Pink & white polka dotted ribbon $0.30/each centerpiece</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Misc. Flowers $2.00 Dollar Tree</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Flat styrofoam piece $1.00 Dollar Tree</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>Step One:</strong></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4OCr-uItn1Ds5eEcuORphQlkWA151EYUdP9HTgZj4LGxRWS_7ewq8jVG4sNlw2OEWMTnVa2XHUmKrj-txGQbHcYou5P3Jp3CEwg2G2caMtI9Oq8Pd22cQS40tVtE3jb3iPTPfbDOiihg/s1600/IMG_2243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4OCr-uItn1Ds5eEcuORphQlkWA151EYUdP9HTgZj4LGxRWS_7ewq8jVG4sNlw2OEWMTnVa2XHUmKrj-txGQbHcYou5P3Jp3CEwg2G2caMtI9Oq8Pd22cQS40tVtE3jb3iPTPfbDOiihg/s200/IMG_2243.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyjaHzod4IdiPZw90haRmZ3TaxMIIc8VU-yYvh__xgV1oMtO_oOtNML0GuGuH68LddhzcbgDbd15U4q2cyUrGFYTp-tJqAVB5Zzfj_haKn2efsalmHw2zSpFjxlM6_vHiZDBhjbH0L2yU/s1600/IMG_2244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyjaHzod4IdiPZw90haRmZ3TaxMIIc8VU-yYvh__xgV1oMtO_oOtNML0GuGuH68LddhzcbgDbd15U4q2cyUrGFYTp-tJqAVB5Zzfj_haKn2efsalmHw2zSpFjxlM6_vHiZDBhjbH0L2yU/s200/IMG_2244.JPG" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Paint the styrofoam black. I discovered that spray paint makes the styrofoam disintegrate. If you have any tips regarding that please share with the rest of us:) So I just used craft paint and a paint brush.</span><br />
<br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial;">Step Two:</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I used tooth picks to attach the small balls to the larger one using hot glue on each end. Then did the same thing to attach Minnie Mouse to the base. You could use heavy cardboard or anything you had for the base.</span><br />
<br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial;">Step Three:</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Then glue miscellaneous flowers around the base to cover it. I just used dollar tree flowers in coordinating colors.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">HERE is the finished result along with a pic of Payton watching mommy. She's even got her minnie mouse nightgown on:)</span><br />

I have always wanted to take a class and when I saw that Hobby Lobby had 50% off their classes in February, that is what I did. My Aunt Kim & I took the class together. And as usual when you do anything with Kim, you have a good time:) Our instructor was great, shout out to Sam! And to top it all off he has some type of visual deficiency. It truly is amazing what some people do despite what others may see as a limitation! God is good.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hobby Lobby provides the Wilton courses. So if you've ever seen the book, we basically went through each lesson during class. BUT, I found Sam's</span><span style="font-family: Arial;"> tips to be well worth the $20 it took to take the class. I will give one piece of advice. I called before hand to get an estimate of how much supplies would cost. I was TOLD between $45-50, what I spent was more like $125-150. SO, go into it knowing that and you won't be surprised like I was! The good thing is that all the supplies, except for the gum paste & fondant of course, can be used over and over again.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Dum, dum, dum (that is my drum roll)</span><br />

Last week I started on Payton's 3rd birthday invitations. Almost makes me want to cry a little:( My baby isn't a baby anymore, and I'm too young not to have babies!! OK, back to the point. I thought the invitations turned out so cute that I posted them on Etsy and sold over 100 in 1 day!! Can I get a WHAT, WHAT! Now I have to find time to make that many, lol. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now I have started on other birthday necessities. Today I worked on Minnie Mouse Ears & Minnie Mouse goody bags.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Minnie Mouse Ears</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Supplies: Headbands from the dollar tree 4 for $1, Hobby Lobby black foam sheets $0.99 & pink polka dotted ribbon.</span><br />
